Latest Update of our house
I woke up late around 11am. I can’t believe it; Hubby’s done with the trims in my office. In few days, he’s ready to do the floor. He said “It is no fun doing the trims but of all the jobs on building this house, the more I think about it, I think the trim is the best part so far. Compared to doing the trim, cutting the trees, helping digging the hole, blasting rock in the mud was no fun. Making the topo with all the weeds bushes, trees, in the way was no fun. Walking on 8-12 pitch carrying 5/8 4x8s was no fun. Building steel trusses and setting them was no fun. Wiring 8 3-way circuits, plumbing copper, gas, PVC, and cast iron was no fun. Running ducts and installing the furnace was not real fun”. BUT THEN… he said “Actually, it was all fun knowing I’d have a house to live in. Being in a warm place with my wife and kids, getting fancy with the router bits and all, I think the trim is the best part”.
We have 2600 Sq ft living space, 800 sq ft garage, and 1400 sq ft unfinished basement. 3 full baths, 4 BRs depending on counting the office a BR or not. Technically, it has a closet so it could be the 4th BR. Best specs are the 8” exterior walls with R30 in them and R38 in the attic. Stays cool in summer, warm in winter. Furnace is 92% efficiency but it only comes on in the am until hubby gets a fire going. We put in a “Fireplace Extrodinair” that blows in outside air, heats it, and blows it in the house. Windows are Anderson tilt-n-wash double pane, low-E. Hubby trims all 20 of them along with 19 doors. When the trim’s done, the hardwood goes down on the floor and we should be 100% done then. Soon, we’ll have a warming but actually, it’s warm already. We couldn’t wait although we’re in the house already. We have more square footage in our kitchen then we had in our entire trailer. After living in the trailer, I realized, I am happier in a house. The kids loved their own bedroom too.
